Hi guys,

I'm buying my first real watch and I have opted for Oris Aquis Date (blue dial). I've attached the picture.

My wrist size is 17cm and I'm wondering which size I should go for, 39.5mm vs 43.5mm? I live in remote Australia so unfortunately I can't try them out, I'll have to buy the watch online.

Thanks guys 🙂

Well in my opinion if this was a watch without a dive bezel i would say go 39.5mm but since this does have one i would say 43.5mm since dive watches have smaller dials and it will give the illusion of the watch being smaller than the size suggests. Also if i remember correctly the Aquis doesn't have a long lug to lug distance.

Worst case scenario is you might have to exchange it or return it if you don't like the fit. Just keep all the tags and plastic on it until you know for sure.

Nice choice btw.

39.5, no doubt. Even more given you are not going to test it before buying (and even if you tested it, while you might convince yourself you can bear it, and/or even that it looks better, it is in the long run that you would start thinking "is it not a bit bulky/heavy?"). You can't go wrong with the shorter one, while you can (and IMHO, you certainly will) with the larger one.

Even if you can stand the larger watch, it doesn't mean you should, and I have no doubt the shorter one will be more comfortable. And, given its design, "vanilla" round, and with a not too wide bezel, 39.5 becomes a no brainer.

I would go with the 39.5 unless your wrist is 17.5 cm or greater or you really like large watches.

A good rule of thumb for what watch diameters will best fit your wrist is the ratio of your wrist circumference (in mm) to watch diameter should be between 4 and 5. For a 16.5 cm wrist, that works out to sizes between 33mm and 41mm.
