I was roaming around Nakano broadway in Tokyo, and feeling generally dismayed by the Rolex market here.
Went around Jack Road and a few other nearby shops. I was tempted by Bvlgari octo finessimo ($9k), Montblanc Heritage World time ($3.7k) and some Rolex Datejusts ($11k).
A sudden flash of an unusual colour caught my eye as I was scanning the rows of Seiko...Lo and behold an SBGA391.
I tried it on, and was surprised the 44mm case wasn't so much a monstrosity as I had thought. It does sit tall, and is TOP heavy, but the finishing of the hands, dial and bezel was impressive.
The dial shimmers in different lighting, from dark to a turquoise.
One neat touch about the seconds hand, is that the Long segment is gold, and the counterbalance is black. In the right lighting, you only see the smooth sweep of the golden arm, and counterbalance seems to float.
The crown also aligns correctly when screwed in, amazing how many companies cannot get that right, despite the market positioning them to be higher than GS.
Walked out of the shop with it, with some favourable currency exchange and tax discount.
This is my first GS, I had wanted one since I first saw them nearly 10 years ago. I love watching the smooth motion and very happy I came across this limited edition to give some colour to my collection.
