Quartz PRC 200 stopped

Hey all,
I bought a Quartz PRC 200 almost 3 years ago from a Non-AD before I knew any better. I don't wear the watch often but it's always kept amazingly perfect time. This week I purchased a new strap for it and had zero problems popping it in and checked the time. Everything was fine. Later noticed the time was off by hours and the second hand was not moving. I pulled out the crown, set the time and the second hand began moving.

I didn't think much about it and put it in my drawer. Later the next morning, I went to put the watch on, only to discover it was stopped again. Now, I cannot get it to start moving. The chrono works and if you're patient, you can tell the second hand is actually moving about a second of movement every 30 or so actual minutes. Also, if I listen, i can faintly hear the movement ticking inside the watch.

I guess my first question is, is there anything I can try?

Second, being that this came from a non-AD, is there a good way to get service on this watch that won't break the bank?

Third, if necessary, how can I tell if someone knows what they're doing before turning my baby over to them? Etc.

Did you replace the battery or a strap?

If it's the strap then take it to an AD or watchmaker and see if they can replace the battery for you.
Batteries for Chronographs can deplete very quickly if engaging the chronograph functions a lot. For example: my uncle used his chronograph fossil (Ronda movement) for his working out (twice a day). His battery ran out in a little under a year.
I would strongly recommend seeking a watchmaker or AD who can test water resistance once the battery is installed (generally 10 atm is the highest you will find at watchmakers/AD's).

All I did was a strap replacement. I don't think it's the battery for a couple of reasons. First, the chrono funtions fine and second, this movement has a battery low function. When the battery is at approximately 80%, the watch will keep accurate time but the second hand will "skip" at 15 second intravals. This is designed to give you ample time to change the battery and it never went into this special mode.

Still, i will start with a battery. I couldn't hurt.

Won't do it when the battery leaks or there's corrosion from battery leak possibly?

I still suggest you get the battery and contacts checked out first , or for the price of it, just replaced whilst he's in there just to eliminate it, it's overdue in my book if it's (at least) three years old ?

Just a suggestion anyway :)

You guys ROCK! It was the battery. I was so certain that it was more serious because of the EOL function but as stated, this watch does not have that feature. Unfortunately, there's no place in town that can pressure test my watch so that will have to wait until I can find someone regional to do it but at least it's working now and I can enjoy my new strap!

Thanks again.
