Is it possible to mount a normal acrylic crystal using a crystal lift on a vintage watch that previously had an acrylic crystal mounted with a tension ring?

Hi Samantha!

Yes, that would be better, but that would mean that I need to buy other crystals than I have and I also need to buy a crystal press. It seems a bit tricky to get the exact right size, but perhaps it is not so difficult (have never done that before). Of course, it would be better to put the correct one in...

Hi there,

of course you can place a not reinforced crystal with conical edge in a cylindrical bezel for a reinforced crystal, and unfortunately this botch is common practice because it saves few bucks.

But consider the consequences: If the oversize is too low, the crystal may pop out in a plane. And if you choose an overzize to keep it reliably in place, it will craze immediately or at least soon.

And even if you choose a moderate oversize and stay at ground, there is still a problem: There is a gap between the cylindrical bezel seat and the conical crystal edge, which will collect all dirt it can get.

Finally I'm afraid that manufacturers have good reasons to adapt bezel seat and crystal edge to each other. So better don't join the fit-all-super-glue club.
