Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had any negative experiences with rubber or silicone straps coming in contact with things like suntan lotion and bug spray. I'm asking specifically because I would like to switch from a watch with a metal bracelet to one with a rubber strap for outdoor use at the beach, camping, etc. Once years ago I wore an inexpensive Swatch on a fishing trip in the tropics and after a week of wearing it after applying aerosol sunblock, the rubber strap began to break down and become a gooey mess. Also, I've heard that insect repellents can have the same effect.
Was that one reaction with the Swatch strap an anomaly due to cheap material or is the same thing likely to happen with other brands as well? Anyone have any input on whether rubber straps can handle common chemicals?
