Its been a couple of months now since I bought the Seiko Arnie re-issue. So far, couldn't find one thing that I don't like about it. However, the other week met some friends who quickly noticed the Arnie. One topic lead to another and eventually the whole discussion ended up being about the screw down rings around the push buttons and the inconvenience of constantly screw them down when you wanna use the push buttons and then screw them back so water doesn't get inside.
So, long story short... to my knowledge, push buttons are water resistant to some extent even without the screw locking the button. Have and had watches with push buttons and went swimming without any issues - but its true: I never operated those buttons while in the water.
The Arnie has the PADI certification so is it possible that in order to be certified as a 200meter diver, Seiko has to "secure" those push buttons with screws and extra seals?
The actual discussion with my friends was about the push buttons (without screw lock) water resistance while swimming and if the button offer any water resistance if for any reason, they are operated under water.

I have the snj025. The screws wind up to prevent accidental pressing of buttons when diving underwater. Although the arnie is still waterproof with the screws down, if you press a button while underwater there is a chance that water could get in. That's why screwing them up while diving, in the shower, or swimming is there, to prevent the pressing of buttons. If you are not diving or swimming you can keep them screwed down for daily use. The watch will still be water proof to splashes, rain, etc while screws are down. Just don't press a button while under water, or screw up the button guards when submerging in water.
