I did some searching and consulted some charts but can't find when this watch I purchased was made. It's a Seiko SQ with movement SY23, model 8040. Great watch by the way! Does anyone know?

Dial should say Movement (Mov't) Japan

The inside case back should have where it is cased (China/ Korea/ Thailand) if it does not then assume it was all made in japan.

It was also made in 1992 and was one of the last ones that had SQ (Seiko Quartz) on the dial as quartz watches were all around and there was no reason for a fancy badge on the dial anymore

Thanks! But how do you know that?

I just know as I am the all powerful Vintage Seiko Quartz knowledge god

Bow to my all knowing presence....

No just kidding

The first 2 numbers in the serial number are Year and Month so yours was made in Feb of 1992

The watch has that 1980's to 1990's look to it but the 5Y23 movement was not made until the late 1980's which rules out it being made in 1982

Most if not all Seiko quartz watches dropped the SQ off the dial by 1994 so that also rules out a 2002 made watch.
