Hello. Looking at picking up a diver around the $1000 mark. Can go to $1500. These are the two I see that I like. It will just fall in line with the collection and be a part of my rotation. Which would you choose? Are there better options in this range? Maybe Doxa? 41-43mm, 48-50 LTL, prefer strap over bracelet. Thank you.

Do you need the GMT function?

I love the Mido, but from what I hear it wears pretty big.

I own the Squale. It is a great watch that wears smaller than the size suggests. My only complaint with it is the fiddley crown. As an only watch, it is fine. As a part of a larger collection you might not wear it due to the crown.

Thank you for the advice. It won’t be an only watch. I don’t need a GMT but think it looks cool. I also agree that a fidgety crown would irritate me.

Before I saw this I just posted my appreciation of the mido. To me one is a gmt (a true gmt) the other is not so that is a difference depending on your need. But I love the mido. Ali’s if your are not averse to preowned you can get a near mint for under 1000.

Mido, without a second thought. But then I might be biased, I own an OceanStar GMT(in black), but I'd never buy a Squale.
A true GMT movement at the current price of the OceanStar is a pure bargain, you'd have to go japanese to find one at or below that price but it wouldn't have the fit and finish, by a long shot, of the Mido.

When I spent my money I chose a Squale 1521. The Mido looks like it would get boring after the newness wore off. The Squale is in a category all by itself. The Mido, 🥱, will stay in the drawer while the Squale will hit the Beach.
My $.02 worth.
What's helpful is contrary to the Squale, the Mido not only sports a GMT function but it sports true GMT functionality where the local hour hand can be set independently on its own gear. If the argument revolves picking up a GMT, unsure why one would choose the Squale between these two except on looks.

I spent the money on an Ocean Star GMT and have no regrets. I don't think they wear big personally, the only 'big' spec is the diameter but I don't find it wears tons bigger than many of the 42mm watches I have. I put mine on rubber recently, have the black rubber incoming as well

Details of your rubber straps ease. They fit.ok? Mido? Or aftermarket? Tang? Or will I have to fit the mido slide divers clasp to it. TIA. Just picked up red blue gmt.

i wear two dive watches from Certina, a Mido sister company - the DS diver and the PH500m. Same ETA movement as the Mido you’re considering. I also wear a Squale 2002, elabore grade ETA 2824-2 that’s normally a few seconds more accurate per day than the Certina watches. All worn frequently, all have been in the water, on hikes, long bike rides, and so on. None of them have any issues or problems. Setting aside that there may be occasional lemons in any batch of manufactured products, I’m confident both of the watches you are looking at are high quality.

Given your size range, it might be worth looking at the Longines Hydroconquest 41. With any discount at all, it should be in your price range. A different look with the Arabic numerals; a much-improved/simplified dial from previous models, in my opinion; and a movement that’s arguably an upgrade from the watches you’re considering. Overall, an extremely appealing dive watch. Another option, though perhaps a tad larger than you want, is the Mido Ocean Star 600. Chronometer-grade movement at that price point is unusual.

I think you should choose the one that you like better and could see yourself wearing.
