Hi, can any one tell me what I've done wrong?
I took the stem out of a watch to shorten it slightly and now I can't get it back into the winding position. :-(
I can move the hands but it just won't go in that one more click.
Should I loosen the stem screw a touch? Tighten it a touch?
I'm at a loss so I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks

Well I hope you loosen the stem screw to shorten it, if so, then you shouldve left it unscrewed until you reset the stem and then tighten it back up. My question to you is why did you shorten the screw anyway? Was this a "build watch" or a already assembled watch that you thought the stem was too long? Another question would be which end of the stem did you shorten? was it on the end with the crown or the opposite end?

It is a bought watch (nos ladies cyma) and the stem was about 1.5mm too long.
I loosened the stem screw about a turn and a half, took the stem out, took the crown off, shortened the stem and replaced the crown. All went well until I went to replace the stem. I just can't get it to click back into the wind position. o|
(Crown end shortened)

The first question to ask is: Why would the stem on a "NOS" Cyma be 1.5mm too long? That's quite a bit.

You are sure it was 1.5mm too long when in the winding position? Hopefully you have not shorten the stem when it was OK to begin with.

If, when you removed the stem, you also pulled the watch into setting position (sounds like you did since the stem turns the hands now) then you can only tighten the set lever screw when the crown/stem is in "setting position". To find this position may require a bit of trial and error. When you find it the set lever screw will turn in further.

You also may have dislodged the clutch lever from its proper position. If so, then to fix this requires removing the hands & dial

Thanks for the reply's, these are the watches I bought.

If you look at the ladies watch, the stem and crown don't belong to it.

That is the crown in it's winding position, I stupidly assumed, when I looked at the photo's, that the picture had been taken with the crown pulled out.

However, still an easy fix I thought, until I tried ;-)

I have to assume the stem has been in the setting position when I pulled it. so I'll have another fiddle with it.

Thanks for the advice
