Talk me out of the mudmaster GG-B100

Ok it finally happened: Turned from Anakin to Vader…oh well, I’ll just embrace my new me.
As some of you may know in the sub forum, I asked for a first G shock like a month ago, and now I’m down into the rabbit hole. At this time I have 2 Casios (DW5600-1EV, GBD200UU-1), and bought one for my wife and son. My collection now is my 3 autos (Longines HC, Mido OS GMT and patrimony chrono), and my 2 Casios, set aside my Garmin, which is a sport monitor only. So being here brings me to this: I can round it to 3 autos and 3 Casios. Nice! Isn’t it? And one has catched my eye recently: GG-B100. I’ve made my homework and watches some videos, reading tutorials, and I tried one (liked the fit, not the color). I want to get it, and I want to get it for my bday (May).
This purchase should be the last of the year, and maybe the last in a long time, so I am planning it accordingly…my budget is set in that range (~350 USD) and I love all the functions and looks. I don’t want anything mechanical in this moment (maybe in a couple of years) I want a Casio.
So you Casio heads know much more and there might be something similar in that price range in Casio that can catch my eye
What I like of that watch? Looks, functions, I like also the blend of ruggedness and tech, and a Ana-digi would be a nice addition to my box
So there you go pals, talk me out of it…suggest something better or something I haven’t think of yet, or talk me about completely of this purchase…should I ask for a permanent membership in WPAC?

In this price range, with this range of functionality, I think your strongest options are the GG-B100 or a Pro Trek. Seeing as I own both the GG-B100 and a smattering of Pro Treks, I find them both equally satisfying. The big difference is that the Pro Trek will be more sleek and biased toward ABC functions. The G is much more rugged in size and weight and biased toward timing functions. Solar is not really a restricting factor for me and neither is MB6, although they are both nice features.

You can't go wrong either way!

BTW, the Pro Trek that's closest to the GG-B100 is also one of my favorites, the PRT-B50. It's also Bluetooth enabled and the 5061 module is functionally pretty close to the 5594 in the GG-B100. It also comes on a strap if that's your preference.
Enjoy!

I love the looks of the GWG1000…price is prohibitive though, and I’m not into used…I want it new, used market here is bad and high risk to get a fake.

Thank you for the suggestion! Protreks haven’t had enough attention from me it seems. I’ll check the 61

Fair enough haha! It is important to slow down the buying impulse

Not my cup of tea but thanks for the suggestion!
I failed to mention that even though I admit I’ll barely need it, I’m very interested in Casio’s triple sensor…GG-B100 quad is even better (steps I do use), and I just learned checking the recommendations here, protreks have them also (at least some of them)

I would recommend the GG-B100 as I own one. It has one of the most complete modules in a G and the cherry on top is that you can customize the functions you want in the watch and also the displays you want to have in the timekeeping mode. The only thing missing is a vibration alarm but that has not been a strong point of Casio. I do have the GD-350 to keep me covered.

Thanks for the posts everyone! @M-Shock Though solar might be the only attribute that can really take me away from the B100!, but is not really a deal-breaker. I don’t mind changing batteries at all, and after dealing with my garmin, charging it twice a week and it dying in the golf course I know I can live with that. If the low battery signal last at least some hours then I don’t see a real problem. Granted, the thing of never have to change a battery somewhat attracts me. Atomic timekeeping I don’t have here in Colombia, that function is superfluous for me, and BT I guess would be enough to have the watch on time. Sapphire is nice, I have it in my autos, but in that watch isn’t a dealbreaker either…if breaks or severely scratches, is an easy fix.
@Viper45 how’s B100 wear against other G’s if you have them?
I’m already checking protreks BTW trying to compare against B100. I have yet to try one

The B100 is very comfortable on the wrist. I have posted a review and compared it based on my experience with the other mudmasters (including the infamous GWG-1000) I have come across and its the only muddy I can wear without any issues every day. I recently got a GD-350 and found it to be causing discomfort due to its wings to accommodate different wrist sizes. They really dig onto the skin.

Ok so having a couple of free hours I rush to the new “g shock corner” at my usual AD.
Told you I’ll try them all and almost got all of them
Image

this was a must…beautiful, comfortable despite the size…it looks really big, and I liked the sapphire on it. Still, out of budget and also I don’t feel paying the premium on this, so saving for it does not seem like an option. I’d like to taste other g shocks with the extra budget.
Image

titanium IS light. I get why this should disappear in your arm…really light and I like the looks of titanium. I want Ana-digi so no. On to the next…
Image

I understand why these ones have a fanbase on their own. It is sooo cool man…Although I wouldn’t pay the premium on the GWG1000, I’d make a case to do so on a frogman (Ana-digi). Comfortable, built like a tank like a master of G should, but also that asymmetric design…It rocks man, I’ll have to check my future (future) purchases and see if a frogman comes.

Image

the kid I was talking about. Not much else to say, wears great, it is more comfortable but also seems more proportional to my eyes than the 1000. I love the contrast of the dial and the hands, the placement of the buttons, the case, this is the one, almost. I’m doing my homework.
So I asked for the olive strap one…backordered
Price on this one? Translated into USD: 500 (yeah…everything is more expensive here), with a “client” discount, they were down to 425 (taxes included)….then my salesperson said “Sir, why don’t you try this? Maybe I can work a better price on this one
That one:

well this one is really cool. I know blackout cases aren’t the best ones (I didn’t like the mudmaster one I checked sometime ago), I loved the fit and the asymmetric case. The digital panel also seems somewhat more legible than the mudmaster. I don’t know if the caseback has something to do, but it really hugs your wrist. That one was 500 also, butshe told me they can work it down to 300

It seems like you are really thinking this through, which is great. It also seems like you are really leaning towards the GG-B100, and that‘s a great watch. Just one small point, the first watch in your photos above is a GWG-2000 not a GWG-1000, if that difference matters to you. Enjoying following your journey.

Trying things on in person is definitely the right approach to take if a stocked AD is available.
The big Frog looks like it gaps quite a bit on the sides of your wrist. This won't get better and is a problem for smaller-waisted folks trying to daily wear it.
The GR-B200 is a good watch, but I far prefer its land-based brother. The plastic strap hardware and more plastic overall make for a lighter watch (80g vs 92g) feel. Too light. It feels like a toy.
Also, the right side button arrangement makes it look visually unbalanced whereas the Muddy is a marvel of rugged balanced symmetry.
In this head-to-head, Land wins over the Air.

Unlike the Frog, I like the button guards and asymetrical case on the GravityMaster. The double backlight looks great too.

I don't like the dial not having any numbers on it, and personally I'd prefer something not blacked out (too "military"). I'm guessing this is why there's a discount on it, the model just isn't moving?

I go by the saying, "maybe means no". Waiting doesn't do any harm; and if you still like it in a few weeks or months, I'm sure there will be one available that leaves no doubt.

Yes sir! Agree on your words, that’s in fact my approach with this one. My birthday is in may, so several weeks ahead. I saw in fact that there’s only one of those (the gravity) in the stores (AD has several stores in the city) so that one surely isn’t moving. I went straight and texted my usual salesperson (in another store of the same AD) and asked straight for a 30% discount on the B100. They also have this policy, that you can reserve a piece with a down payment and pay the rest over pickup and you have 3 months (May is 3 months apart, go figure) to pay the difference, no interest.
So eventually I can just reserve it and check what else catches my eye. Since they are authorized AD, I could eventually ask form a specific piece to be imported, but then, I could not manage discounts the same way. I could pay it up front, right now, but I don’t want…I’ll just wait. Maybe the discount shows up at some point

Really curious about how you go here.

I've decided for the moment to hold on to my Mudmaster (GWG-100), the lume and backlight is so good, and I don't have another solar MB6 ana-digi so there's no redundancy. My "collection" is quite complete, for me, which is a curse and a blessing, it's nice but we always like to look for what's next.

The GravityMaster in orange, but HEY LET'S GO FOR IT and what about the GW-3000M-4AER ?

Here's an interesting review of it: Casio G-Shock Aviator GW-3000M-4AER review

The GW-3K is a nice looking watch. If I got turned on by full-analogs, I'd probably own it. But I feel the heritage of Casio and G-Shock, at its heart, must include and LCD so I think I only own two full analog Casio/G. All the rest are pure digital or ana-digi.

Color is important too…loved the black unit I checked yesterday, but I have yet to know the olive in person
