Temporary/Permenant solution to a split or ripped strap band (rubber, resin, similar)

Ingredients: A Soldering iron

Yo.
I found a pretty good solution to ripped, snapped or torn straps.
It's not the prettiest solution so an immaculate finish isn't going to be the end result (although with practice who knows?) but it's solid and keeps the strap from breaking or becoming non-usable.

Strap from a G-7700:
Slight tear in the band but looked to me like it would've gotten bigger or at least split as far as the tang hole, the spot being right where I'd fix the buckle too.

First attempt at a fix: I tried superglue and that worked for about 1/2 hour before cracking. :/
Scrap that one then, kinda expected it.
I was going to attempt using 2 part epoxy glue with less hardener thus giving a softer end mix but was feeling impatient and then had a lightbulb moment...

Yeah!!!

A few minutes later (on full heat) and ta-da!!!

Solid and still flexible albeit a little stiffer than the unmelted resin. Perfect!
I'm gonna get a new set of bezel/straps for this watch at some point but just thought I'd share a quick fix for anyone who might end up in a similar predicament.

i love ghetto fixes |> the band on my 8300 suffered the same fate (tho much more severe, hanging by a thread kinda deal) while i was out one night so i popped into a 711 and asked to borrow a stapler. that fix held up for the better part of a year till the rusting staples started to make my arm itchy :p

If I were another Casio resin band, and looked at that, I'd stay well clear, it would frighten the bejesus out of me! LOL

Yeh, I think I'm gonna get the CL-2 set eventually, when I see them cheap enough (inc. delivery, someone at customs I feel has made a beeline for me but I'm working on balancing that back out at present), and dye it a bit darker or go green. the double tangs and sort of tyre tread look of the strap I think will look pretty cool on this watch.

Some repairs are not worth pursuing. I have a mental picture of you in glasses with a bit of plaster round the broken frame. :)
And what exactly is wrong with that??

It's ugly but function over form. Besides, it's on an area of the strap that isn't exposed all the time so it's probably hard to notice. I've thought about doing something like this before but I also know that it's something that would bother me so I'd get a new strap right away.
