My Timex Weekender worked fine until I - as you might guess - opened the case and removed the winding stem, just to tinker around with it. After putting it back together, the hands no longer move, but the indiglo works.

Any diagnoses from afar (other than, that's what you get for tinkering)?

I thought I might have touched the coil (with the case back) at some point, which I've read is a no-no, but why? And if I damaged the coil, wouldn't the watch no longer light up?

(Oh, and I know it would be easier to just buy another one, but I'd like to know what may have happened.)

I started by pulling out the crown to setting mode, and then released the stem as I pulled it completely out. All I did to put the stem back was to slide it back inside. Once in, I can pull it out to setting mode, and the hands adjust. I'll then push it back in, and the hands no longer adjust.

But you have a point - if the indiglo lights up, then perhaps the problem is lurking with how the stem is engaging the pinions.
