Was snooping around on ebay and found this supposedly new Marlin Automatic 40mm with the silver case and black dial, but the gold hands and crown from the gold model. Also found it on an Italian website, but not on Timex's Italian website. Very strange. I would try to email Timex USA, but their customer service is crap.

That would normally be a good explanation, but with these Marlin Automatics just coming out last year as all new (not an evolution of a previously for sale model-Timex was all quartz all the time until the Marlin hand wind debuted a year earlier) that doesn't make sense in this case. It's kind of a cool watch, just a subtle hint of gold, makes it look more retro than the other colours.

This happened to me with Timex’s 8 lap “1986 reissue”. Search for Timex Ironman 8 lap and you can get it New in a bunch of colors. Definitely don’t see them on the Timex website. Worth buying too. A fun digital for sure. Makes me wonder what Timex has out there that consumers don’t even know exist.

There also are some of the cheaper regular vintage style digital watches in radical color ways on eBay if you do some digging.

I have attached some photos from eBay and definitely don’t see them on the Timex website either

Were this eBay only, I'd be more worried. But the same photo's also on the store web site, along with several other models.

It does seem very strange that they're showing a stainless bezel with a gold tone crown...when Timex shows a gold tone bezel and crown, and a steel bezel and crown model. That said, I think it's likely legit. The Timex SKU on the store web site is consonant with the straight stainless model on Timex.it or timex.eu...consonant, not the same. Close enough to indicate the slight variant...in this case, the gold tone crown.

Could be a case of Timex placing orders with specific instructions to their Asian factory and the factory ending up with extra parts to assemble whatever they can, to use up inventory. And timex wouldn’t even know what was actually made.

This happens with toys all the time. Mattel orders Hot Wheels from Asian factories and has no idea what was actually sent out to Walmart and Target until us collectors gather the unauthorized variations and post photos online. These “mistakes” can be worth extra to collectors.

Hey Guys,
I got my expected vague and impersonal reply from Timex. If I read it positively it looks like this maybe be a new color debuting next month and is available early (probably due to Timex's incompetence), so that would be cool and maybe there's another color or two. Maybe another no date? Maybe one with Woodstock in his scouts hat?
If I were to read the email negatively then there will be new Timex watches, but no one knows which models or anything else.
Here is the email:
"Thank you for reaching out to us. We appreaciate your interest for our Timex Marlin watch.
New styles will be launch this coming March at our website, www.timex.com.
You may sign up at our website so that our system will notify you for our new release of watches."
