It looks like Timex is taking the technology behind their well-received TX line and is bringing it to the masses this fall. I know this was released at BASEL, but now the watches are almost here.

Timex Intelligent Quartz SL Series Multi-functional Watches - Watch for Your Exposed Beauty

"Intelligent Quartz" is the Timex exclusive innovative patented movement. Such a movement is the technological combination of the separate motor, digital sensor and the microprocessor. This separate motor can drives three independent hands. Its flexibility and precision are out of our expectation.

Sounds like what they've been doing for the last little while with the TX line, only now the watches are $225 or less. These are just a few pics I found.

Timex.ca has the product line up and prices up. Not available yet, but they're out in Europe. Has anyone seen them? For the price they look sweet - most models are under $200.

This sounds interesting and the watches look great, but can anyone explain what the statement above actually means for the end consumer?

I think they're just saying that the retrograde hands are each powered by their own motor, rather than driven by the main motor, so they can twiddle about independently from the main hands.

Which seems like a silly thing to market as a feature, since that's how most quartz chronos work anyway.

I do like the look of the black and red bezeled one though.

Here's another description I found:

"The motors featured in Intelligent Quartz can accommodate up to three additional independent hands. The independence of the hands allows the information generated by these new quartz analog applications to be displayed elegantly. In this way, the technology is written into the design of the watch. The result is an intricate dial aesthetic that is unique to Timex."

It's basically what they've been doing with the TX Line for the last few years. And the watches above share alot of characteristics with the TX 730 and 770.

I have a TX and like the quality, feel and features. Looking at the SL reminds of the TX. Not sure what is the difference other than the brand name. On the other hand, I did some surfing and it seems the new line has some features not offered by TX. Nothing I need, but still a nice looking watch.

I have the TX fly back chrono and love the look and feel of it on my wrist. It is the PVD coated bracelet and case.
I have gotten numerous compliments over it. The compass is a cool feature but not really needed.
The SL line has me interested because the TX was and still is my favorite watch to wear.

A few of them have been around, like the E-Tide/Temp/Compass, I have one and it is a nice watch for the money. The compass is always spot on, and the tide indicator is fairly good too though has to be adjusted for local variations. Temperature is fine as long as the watch is off wrist, just like Casio, Suunto etc.

The altimeter model has my interest, of course it is the most expensive one...<sigh> Reminds me of my Nike Alti-Compass somewhat.

For $200 I'd rather get another TX in my collection and pocket $50. I think Timex had done a good job of stepping up their game with their TX line (I'm a big fan). Now they are offering similar looking watches which IMHO aren't as attractive as the TX line. If you guys have access to an outlet I suggest you check out their TX line first before buying one of these.

Im a fan as well...I have 2 TX. A 650 and a 500 world time series. Im looking for a 730 but couldnt find any in the outlets. It seems the Pilot/compass 730 series is though after and being that TX stoped production, its hard to find. I saw the all black pvd 730 series runing at $500 plus shipping..Crazy...
Grab as much TX as you can at $150 cause you going to have some collectables on your hands.

Timex has killed off the TX brand. That's why they're selling in the Time Factory stores for $150 each. I have purchased 4 of them and can tell you that if they were really trying to sell them for the stated list prices they missed the boat in some significant ways. For example, I have an all black model that shows stainless steel in between each link in the bracelet. On several that I looked at, the second hands were way off their marks on the dial face. One I purchased has a leather strap that's a hair too wide at the lugs and so it squeaks as the band moves. None of this is terrible, it's just not what I would expect in a $500 to $700 watch. If I had paid those kind of prices I would have returned'em. But at $150 I think they're a good deal.

My guess is, either Timex never intended for them to sell at their stated list prices or these guys are so used to designing and selling cheap watches to Everyman that they had little concept of what a $500, $600 or $700 watch's fit and finish should be like.

TX, which is owned by Timex, is a high end German watch company out of Pforzheim. Its technology made its way into the Timex line. Timex has good watches for everyman and that's why they have in business since the 19th Century. And their guys have come up with innovations - the first being a way to sell quality watches inexpensively.

These would be awesome if they were slimmer.

They just launched their new microsite...

Timex Intelligent Quartz

I saw these in person at the store on the weekend (The Bay). Impressive cases - nice size and finish but I wasn't blown away by the stainless steel bracelets or the rubber strap like the one in my first post in this thread. The World Time did look very nice, as did the Bell & Ross homage (black with leather strap). Didn't end up buying any though (prices were MSRP - so the retail prices are better online).

Received my World Time recently. I really like the look I always wanted a worldtime watch. The bracelet like most Timex watches doesn't feel solid but being a Timex wasn't really expecting a great bracelet. But it fits really well and feels good on the wrist. Very happy with it so far.|>

Hello all,

First post here as I really like the look of the B&R "inspired" Black/Tan combo....however I never noticed that glaring mistake on the south/east hand.

Surely you might think that it's a pre-release render problem but it's not it seems.

This has really annoyed me as, now I know about it, I would always be thinking about it...do you think Timex know?

Here's a link to a google image showing a photograph of the watch, not a PR image:

I've emailed the address on the IQ website (canrep) and asked the question.

Seems a bit of a schoolboy error, especially as they use it for all the PR and advertising...and there's this totally illogical sequence on the dial.

Maybe it's intentional? Who knows.

Great forum, some lovely watches. If only I could justify a B&R, from which this Timex clearly took some inspiration from!
