Tricks to Make a Small Watch Look Bigger?

I've caught the vintage bug. The problem is that I'm used to modern-sized (42mm) watches. And most of the vintage watches I like are like 36-40mm which look a bit small. I do use a visual trick, which is to use a dark-colored strap instead of using the bracelet. Makes the watch head look visually larger. Any other tips?

One thing I do to visually enhance smaller watches is only wearing them with long sleeve shirts. You'll forget about the size, because smaller vintage watches are soooo nice to wear with dress shirts. They just slip discreetly right under.

Bottom line, if you like the look and are comfortable with the size, it doesn't matter how small it is.

A 35mm Waltham on a 7" wrist for reference.

I'd agree with the sentiment that it's more important to change your perception than to change the strap.

That said, a suitable bund strap can do wonders to give a small watch more wrist presence, but a poorly proportioned one has the potential to look horrid. A NATO would make the watch sit higher, effectively making it thicker, but I find the diameter of the watch does more for the visual perception of size than the thickness.

8" wrist here too, love the vintage (just picked up another - 35mm!). You just gotta overlook it man, or move on.

22mm x 8" wrist... be brave...!:

(BTW - Bunds suck... just my opinion, of course)

I haven't tried this yet, but would a brightly coloured nato work? Sort of trick the eye into looking at the whole thing not just the dial.

Any wrist shots OP or what watch is it? What I notice more about a vintage watch is how light it is compared to a modern diver.

Go to the nearest State or County Fair, go to the Midaway, find the House of Mirrors, go inside, and check out which one that gives you the best look.
