Hello
I am new to watches I want to find my first Patek Phillipe or Rolex but not sure where to look to find a watch. I want to find a deal just in case a year or two from today if I want to sell it and break even I can.

Where can I look, everyone out there trying to shove a resold with lots of fees on top to you

Watches are not something you should buy in order to 'break even'.

Many new collectors find this advice super conceited and tend to get offended.
But this is great advice. And it is proven time and time again.

Either (1) walk into an AD and pay full price for a Rolex (if you can find one) or Patek OR (2) start with other watches if you want to go pre-owned.
But don't start your collecting with a pre-owned Rolex or Patek. You will get burned.

And Welcome to Watchuseek! :D

I've purchased many watches thru eBay (but never a Rolex - not interested in them).

eBay watches (starting at $2000 and up) are generally first shipped to another facility for authentication (FREE Service check) - before being sent on to you. If the authenticator finds anything out of place both parties are notified - BEFORE the actual sale proceeds.

Edit in: for $80 you can purchase this service for those more economical watches not covered.

Additionally there are ways to protect your money - I pay my eBay purchases thru PayPal; both PayPal and eBay offer guarantees against bad sellers, lost shipments, etc. While clunky and time consuming - it works. Twice now for me.

If you want to break even, you've picked the wrong hobby.

Rolex and Patek sell at a premium over MSRP, especially pre-owned.

Wrong start…rewind and try again.

Buy a watch that you like, don’t think about resale before you do, it will spoil The whole experience for you.

And you won’t be able to just buy a Patek or steel Rolex, you will have to pay 2-3x what they should be sold for, and then your loss at sale will be huge.

Step back, hang around on the WRUW threads, look at a lot of great watches, and then buy one that fits your budget, wrist and lifestyle.

Good luck.

We all try to buy smart so, if we had to sell, we wouldn’t get burned too badly. That’s fine. But…if that’s your primary criteria, perhaps five and six figure watches aren’t the right choice financially.

Buy what you love. Buy what you can afford. Buy from trusted sources.

This is the way.

For high end look at TZ or Rolex forum.
