The only time I wouldn't sport a diver on rubber strap is if I were wearing a suit. However, I'm probably not the person you should be taking fashion tips from. Most of my wardrobe consists of jeans and t-shirts.

 

Usually never. But when I put an Isofrane on my new Laguna a few weeks back, I find myself constantly wearing it unless I'm wearing a suit.

In my opinion a rubber strap is a little less casual than a NATO. You can wear it with a button down shirt without a tie or jacket depending on where you are going. It is casual.

I just find them too sweaty so prefer a bracelet of a Nato.

 

Diving or any water activities

 

Agree; prefer rubber (actually silicone) for water activities, over metal. Resistant to salt effects and easy to wash off and dry.
I consider it ok for casual wear (if it's ok for jeans, T-shirts, etc, it's ok for a rubber strap watch).

 

I wore my Laguna on a leather strap for a while, then put it on the Isofrane just to try it out. It was so comfortable that way that I've left it on and that's how I wear it most of the time. Jeans and t-shirt or slacks and button down shirt - it looks fine either way.

 

I wear rubber most of the time. Isofrane rubber that is... Get ya one and you'll never take it off.

 

I usually only wear my Tortuga on the helsofrane, it has become my designated dirty work watch and you can't beat how comfortable and durable it is.

edit: As to the OP's question I would not wear a rubber strap with suit or business casual attire.

 

I wear a rubber strap watch when I think there is a good chance the watch I'm wearing will get ruined. When I am not working I prefer leather or a comfortable bracelet.

I almost never wear rubber with a collared shirt, but that's just me.

That is actually a really good point, so maybe I should post some pictures of both the strap and watch I have. These are not my pictures, because my camera is awful, and I need to pick up some spring bars before I can install my rubber strap, but you get the idea. The Laguna pictures is on leather (Toshi I think), but it is a good example of solid black, whereas most of the pictures out there of the Helson are either on the bracelet or the Isofrane.

Where ever you feel like it. There is no such thing as fashion advice. If you feel comfortable I say go for it. If my golden tuna fit under my shirt cuffs I would wear it with a suit and an isofrane. In the summer I do wear it on a rubber to any occasion I can get away with a black polo and dress pants.

 

I am not much of a bracelet person so I will wear a rubber strap a lot. Luckily I don't need to wear a suit much (business casual or jeans) but I will wear a rubber strap with a nice outfit. Leather also.

 

I think it's not a question of rubber or bracelet, more of the general watch look and bulk... I already wore the laguna on the Isofrane with a suit and it didn't feel weird...
Not that I'm very sensitive to the "what watch to wear where"etiquette" ... I've always been more of the "mixing styles is at the core of true elegance" school...

All the time, really. I wear my Chase-Durer and my Helson on rubber, and I've worn other things on rubber as well, including my Bluering. I wear them to the office, to the bar, and even dinner. There are very few times where I choose to ignore the accepted rules of fashion in order to make a statement. Somber occasions, yes, I'm going to wear a somber watch. You wouldn't see me wearing a colorful dial to a funeral, for example. But fun stuff, like weddings, or just generally crappy things, like going to work, I'm wearing whatever I want.

 

I think I prefer rubber straps over bracelets and leather. IMHO, even certain lug fitted styles of rubber can be worn with a suit but for the most part if I'm in a suit or a tux, I'll stick to a bracelet or leather strap.
