Why isn't the Mido Ocean Star more popular?

I recently came across this watch and thought wow what a beautiful diver 42mm great size, very thin 11.75mm, swiss made, great colors, great design, big name, grey market price around $500. But yet I hardly see them being shown off on here or even talked about.

It's a nice watch, especially for the price you can get it for but for me the white day/date window on a dark dial screws up what could have been a really nice watch. It would have been better without it or even if it was situated closer to the edge of the dial.

......and yes I own the titanium model. I'm quite often thinking it's 15 minutes past the hour at first glance, particularly in dim light.

Just my peronal opinion is that they are very average in terms of looks. There is nothing exceptionally wrong with them, but nothing exceptionally striking either. I'm sure they are great but just dont move me enough to pull out the credit card.

The modified movement used in those watches may scare scare some people.

Its a bit generic looking, nothing really stands out, like Mido decided to play very safe. Good value on the grey market though....

Personally I don't like day date in that layout, either just date or just remove the whole thing.

Other than that, its a gorgeous watch, specially in blue

I've been searching intently for a blue diver. I've had this Mido blue and the titanium orange in my cart for weeks, but can't pull the trigger. They hit nearly all of my check boxes, but here are my issues:

- as said above, the day/date, for me, there are various reasons.
1 - I don't like the white
2- I could see mistaken it for quarter past the hour
3 - if I don't know what the day it is, knowing what time it is would be the least of my worries.
4 - My diver watch purpose is mainly a going out watch, or even dress watch. Therefore, it won't be worn daily. Having to adjust the date is a big enough pain in the arse, but then having to change the day? Nah. True, I don't care that the day or date are correct, but my OCD will not allow me to leave them incorrectly displayed. Besides, if my limp body is found in a revine, it would be important for investigators to know the day/date ; ) I don't know, maybe I'm just agitated because today is DST and that really fries my oysters.

I like pretty much everything else about both of these watches and if I wanted to add to a "stable" of watches, I'd have bought them already and simply overlooked day/date thing. But I'm trying to consolidate. I already have too many G-shocks and I have a nice MMW 62 MAS, which I actually bought while searching for a blue diver.

I also bought the titanium Version second Hand and i'm more than happy with it! the lume is fantastic. best lume i've ever seen on a watch. de clasp is also great with the quick adjusting System which you rarely see at that Price Point or even above. the sapphire is very clear, at some angles you think there isn't a Crystal at all. and i very much like the use on orange on that perticular model, was for me the icing on the cake. i don't mind the day/date window at all actually. i can hardly recommend that watch to anyone.

Design styling a little "outdated" as the indices, hands, bezel... seems had been used by other microbrands.
Though it's slim and sleek enough to double as dress companion, the "mi-nute" crown size doesn't make it practical as diver make.
MIDO's OceanStar is not the first to utilize powermatic80 movement, but that considered something fresh on established mid-range brand. That's why i got one in RG PVD case, another on order in dual tone.
