I purchased a Casio GA 2100 2AER online from a Casio authorised dealer from Russia. It's a popular retail chain and it was listed on casio's European website . The watch came in a tin within a cardboard box. I noticed that the barcode on the box didn't match the barcode on the watch tag. The barcode on the box was of another version of the same model. This had me a bit concerned. Is it common to find g shocks in mismatched boxes even when buying from authorised dealers ?

I would have to but I couldn't do so since I bought it online through an authorised dealer not from where I live, since the local authorised dealer where I live sell g shocks with a significant mark up. The price for a standard casioak is close to 150USD while the price from the authorised dealer from Russia was about 115 USD including shipping.

I recently purchased a Seiko from a local jewelry store (authorized dealer). It took the sales person 30 minutes to locate the correct box. They pulled out nearly all their Seiko boxes from under the display counters.

They seemed surprised when I asked to get the correct box for the watch. I think they were going to give me the first box the watch fit in if I had not requested the correct box.

I had to return a Ti Square TB to my AD for store credit 5 weeks after buying it a couple of years ago because they couldn't give me the right box for it. The day I bought it they couldn't find the right box so they said they will ask their Casio rep to send one in for me but that obviously didn't work out.

This happens a lot in AD's that have high turnover staff. Not only with G Shock but with other brands as well. G Shock boxes in particular look a lot alike for certain series and for staff that don't know any better they a box is just a box and most of the time their customers are non-wis and don't realize their boxes are wrong.

The watch was fine otherwise?

I had something similar once when I bought a second-hand Pentax SFX slr camera, from a dealer.
It came with a brand new box plus documentation for the updated SFXn model.
I would've liked the original but I didn't mind too much.
Of course it would have been a different story had I purchased a new one and there was no box etc. to go with it.

very common from retail stores, as eddie said, the workers dont care and see a box as a box that will prob get instantly binned like a fast food wrapper.
i once bought 3 of the same model but got 3 diff. boxes, had to point out the right ones in their box cupboard to the clerk, who prob thought i was just being difficult for fun lol

A w rong box is also a sign of counterfeit G-Shock. G-Shock is having a major problem with the dozens of Chinese websites on the internet selling counterfeit's. If you have a plastic cover on your crystal it is counterfeit. If there's one with a red line on the back cover with or even without the red line it is counterfeit. G-Shock doesn't use plastic covers on their watches. The true barcode is printed on the box that they come in. Not on a sticker attached to a string to the watch. Beware of cheap Chinese counterfeits. I was a victim and then I educated myself. Buy a counterfeit. Buy an authentic. Switch the counterfeit into the authentic tin and box. Return and get your money back. Do you think the employees check to see if it's the real thing. They're tough to spot. Even for the experts some get by. Best way is to weigh the watch. G-Shock posts on the internet the specific weight of their watches. Weighing them is the best way to authenticate your watch.

It's quite common in Europe to see a barcode printed on a sticker and stuck to the tag. And I purchased my watch from an authorised dealer and none of the watches that I have purchased had the red sticker or a plastic protector on the casebacks and dials. The thickness of the watch is also a dead giveaway

When I ordered my PRX-7000T Manaslu Protrek from Japan, I was expecting it to arrive in the typical green-lacquered wooden box used for Manaslu watches. Instead, it arrived in that tiny black leatherette-type box that many Gs are shipped in from Japan. I was very disappointed as a Manaslu SHOULD come in really nice packaging. (it would be similar to getting an MR-G in a very cheap box, unexpectedly)

After some communication with the seller, they sent the correct box to me at no charge. And a nice one, it was. It was only proper for a watch of that price. Now, @kubr1ck is the proud owner of the watch (and box). ;)
