Seem decent prices. Are there any hidden pitfalls? Will be buying from the UK.

There's a whole thread going on about Sakura. Most members here wrote their experiences in that thread.

No issue with Sakura but I'd recommend not using Paypal as the payment method. Paypal's exchange rate between currencies is exorbitantly skewed in their favor on the purchase and should you need to cancel you won't get a full refund because the return rate is skewed in their favor again. I bought a $550 watch from Sakura. They issued a full refund when I canceled before shipment but I lost about $27 total due to Paypal exchange rates.

Just thought i would update this post. All went well with Sakura. Took about a week and half but when i ordered it was a holiday in Japan.

The watch in question was the Oceanus S5000. First time buying an Oceanus and a watch made of titanium. Now i know titanium is lighter than steel but wow. This thing feels as light as paper.

It helps with this only being 9.5mm thick. The internals of the tough movement have been redesigned to achieve this thickness. Its super slim and will fit under the tightest cuff. With that being said they seem to have got a lot of depth on the dial. made even better with the double AR coated sapphire crystal. Sometimes the crystal looks like it disappears its that clear.

With the thickness and weight it makes it extremely comfy to wear. You dont know its there until you look and it shines at you. Im not sure but i read somewhere these are zaratsu polished in the same place GS are. If so im sure not to as higher standard but ive never seen a GS to compare. All i know it shines a lot more than my other watches.

The one thing i do know about oceanus is that they always have some blue somewhere and this is no different. What i like about it though is how the blue dosent really shine a lot. Then tilt it towards the sun and the blue pops right out. Every time i look at it it seems a different colour. Really like the gold seconds hand and 12 Oclock indices which just adds a nice splash of colour.

So the specs all together are 40mm case (42.3 with crown) 9.5mm thick, double AR sapphire, titanium with hard coating, 100m water resistance, multi band 6, bluetooth, stop watch, main time zone and second time zone, perpetual calendar, solar powered.

That's a beautiful watch, @sprite1275! Looks super thin!

Do you mind me asking if you got dinged by customs on the Sakura order? Have an order from Sakura on the way to me in London and I'm just wondering if Sakura has any luck getting parcels through without attention from customs?

Not that I mind if I do have to pay - I factor it in. Just curious as any time I've bought from other Japanese sellers, it always gets picked up by customs.

Just ordered a GWG2k from them, last Saturday, shipped yesterday and landed at LAX today. Quick shipping, just have to collect (hopefully tomorrow) and then I can assess the watch.

As far as the exchange rate, it’s true that PP charges more. If anything CC is less, but you have to look for the options tab when paying and use the original quoted price, if that makes sense. I saved about $20 by not using PP’s exchange rate.

Is the options tab you refer to on the Sakura site or the PayPal site?

I couldn't figure out how to get the better exchange rate based on these posts, so I paid an extra $20 US for a $300 watch that was $400 everywhere else, so I guess I still came out ahead even though I'm annoyed that I didn't get quite as great of a deal. Now hopefully the watch gets to me okay...

First time purchase from Sakura. Purchased a Seiko SBDY109.

Watch was shipped right after Paypal cleared the transaction (It got flagged for review).

Received the watch and noticed there was a defect on the 9 o'clock lume marker and sent a photo to Sakura.

He replied within 8 hours and immediately offered a replacement with shipping covered both ways.

We ended up agreeing on a different compensation method and I kept the watch. But it was nice to know he immediately offered to replace it gratis.

Overall from this 1st experience, I would shop here again. Sakura offered the best price for this model and was quick to offer a solution when a problem came up. Obviously not the ideal situation for us both but it was handled well.

I've attached a photo of the defect. The black smudge is the only mark visible to the naked eye, so the other imperfections in the photo are likely reflections or my dirty camera lens.

I'm sorry you are not happy with your watch. In their defense, they do specifically say that they will not check for alignment (Shipping and Returns). Seikos come that way sometimes and if you want one that is perfectly lined up, you might want to consider spending a little bit more and get one at a brick and mortar store.

I have a heap of Seikos these days.... the majority are fine but a couple are off a hair here or there. It doesn't bother me so much but I can see where it might bother other people. Have to tried taking it apart and realigning it yourself?
