Hey guys,
Ive spent a fair while trying find a thread on this subject but without any luck, i do apologize of there is one already. I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight on the gotham watch company by dave robbins. I know these watches dont even slightly compare to vintage waltham, hamiltons etc. but im just curious to know the quality of them?
Thankyou.

Woody, WELCOME to the forum, but nope. Have no information to offer. :-(

They don't even compare slightly with the old Gotham watch company with their All-Proof and Gothamatic watches. Looks like generic OEM fodder to me. A sad waste of a cool brand name IMHO :-( Who is Dave Robbins anyway?

Well, I can tell you that New York City was first referred to in writing by Washington Irving in 1807 and Gotham is a place in the UK rumored to have inept inhabitants. Sorry if you are reading this and are from there, I'm just quoting Wiki.
I also know little about the watch company Gotham. But I do own a Gothamatic with Power reserve.
The bezel appears to be solid 10kt gold as stated on the back. It is Anti-Magnetic, Shock Absorber and water resist. Stainless Back APEX.
It is a nice little watch. Solidly built.
Here are some pics for your enjoyment.

Cool looking watch. Always been a fan of those older looking designs.

I think it is pretty obvious that the two companies are unrelated.
Brand recognition is everything.

Gotham was a brand owned by Ollendorf Watch Co, New York, since 1868. Most, if not all, Gotham watches used Swiss movements; some cased up in the US, others imported complete. The most recent Gotham currently on ebay is a nasty bling piece from 1990-ish with a quartz movement. In the early post-war period, Gotham introduced the Gothamatic with bumper-type auto-winding, possibly a Schild calibre as their hand-winders apparently were. So they weren't cheap rubbish by any means, but not exactly high-grade either. I would guess 'Aquaking' was a replacement or update of the 'All-Proof' model.
