Not a G I know, but I thought I'd share this eBay win anyway.

I've seen the odd Overland on here before in the G and non G WRUW threads and thought they looked pretty good so decided to look for one.

I was surprised to win this for what I did, bearing in mind it's titanium, (I know nothing about the Overland models so am unsure whether the OAW-100 has more than one version or if only in titanium?). So it was mine for just under a measly £32👍.

Another reason I went for it is because the seller described it as being sold for spares/repairs because only the digital section works in daylight! Looking at the manual, (and in my own knowledge), the hands will stop if the battery is low or dead anyway so I placed a bid hoping there's actually nothing wrong with it.

It's obviously a Japan market Waveceptor so won't pick up a time signal in the UK, but these can have the auto receive turned off so no issues.

Yeah I was thinking about a NATO, but I also like the original bracelet, which from the wrist size fitment the seller gave, should fit me exactly right.

I'm hoping there's already a battery in it, and if so, a few weeks of light to get it properly to full should be fine.

It should be MB5 waveceptor so it should work in UK. At least all other brothers are MB5 (not correct these actually dual band MB2 so to say). I have WVA 430J. I was looking at one many times, it just did not pass at reasonable price.
Been screwback is unique here. There were Casio Waveceptor, Lineage and Oceanus with same module. Not all overlands titanium. It kind of mid step between Lineage and Oceanus. Frankly given how bad Oceanus was at the time Overland was around you can say they like some contemporary Ocenaus models.
Probably new CTL 920 and it good to go. May wake up by itself.
Cool watches. As far as strap go. My choice would of been canvas or nice silicon.
Leather with sticking may be interesting choice too.

Correction. It is dual band Japan and USA. So no European reception. Plus no wonder i did not noticed. Canada is covered.

These were a field watch spinoff for the lineage series for the Japanese market. They were in the market for quite some time before being discontinued thats why there are plenty for sale. These were not a sales success though as the ProTrek series took the field watch duties.

Ok, some updates on this one, not all good!

So it's in pretty great condition, which is good, and it's light!! Titanium is a good thing!😂.

It has a CTL1616 in, so that's a positive.

I managed to get it in direct sunlight today, but only long enough for it to get enough charge to flash the "C". I still might just get a new battery, haven't decided yet.

I found out straight away that for whatever reason, the minute hand was loose! This worried me straight away, not because of any damage or it stopping the module working, but because my watch hand skills are very cr*ppy!😂😂

I do have some tools but that particular job is something I've always done badly!

So off came the second hand and I did actually manage to set the minute hand level on the centre stem again. The second hand, however, turned into another story🤣.

Basically no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get it to sit down in the centre and when I thought I'd managed it, the hand press tool just ended up bending it. Eventually I tried so many times that the thing just snapped off!

I now have a second handless watch😂. However I think the minute hand is ok, but I can't test that with the hands set procedure until it's either charged or has a new battery, which writing this makes me think that's a better option than waiting for weeks to get the existing one charged.

To be honest, it actually looks kind of alright without the second hand, and maybe I can source a busted up watch with the same module to rob the hand out of.

Anyway here are some photos taken on arrival. I haven't cleaned it yet.

This is just me taking the bracelet off:

Weird writing on the inside of the screwback, and the piezo is a shiny metal, not like most I've seen:

100% the correct battery:

A photo from just now to show there is some sort of life in the battery and how it looks with no second hand:

I'll do more updates as and when.

I feel like I've come close to mastering hand setting (try Rodico and a free-hand handsetter next time), but generally don't plan to ever **** with these ani-digis. Kinda sucks to have the bare pinion sticking out, but guess it looks okay.
Yeah, I've been reading different forum posts yesterday when searching for how to replace a second hand, that mention rodico. I will pick some up, still need to find a second hand though 😂.

Trouble is that I had to take the second hand off to sort the minute one.

I nearly gave up on it when the hand snapped on me, but the watch is too nice and if I have managed to sort the minute hand then I can live with it how it is for a while.

Update:-

So it's been out in bright British sunshine, (yeah I know right??😂), for a few hours which has been enough to get it to a false High and allow me to sit in the garden with it and go through the manual.

Basically it's all set how I need it, Auto Receive off and time & date set manually, Day language set to English.

I reckon the battery is ok, but I ordered a new one anyway.

It's only the second hand that should go to 12 in the hands set mode, so obviously I can ignore that😂. The hour and minute work together and are set manually with either of the two right hand buttons. The hands then match whatever the digital time says and they seem to be working in that regard.

Edit-I just went out and the hands are now not moving! I'm guessing there's nowhere near enough battery power to keep the hands running, I'll be able to try it when the new battery gets here though.

A quick update - The new battery arrived today and is now fitted. At least I don't need to wait for however long to get the original to full!

I also found on closer inspection that I'd put the minute hand on very slightly wonky and it was catching on the hour hand, therefore not letting them turn any more.

I managed to get it straight and now they are working fine👍. Online tiny problem though😂. Don't ask me how I did it, but I somehow dug into the lume on the hour hand, and now it has a small dent in it🤣. It's fairly difficult to see with the naked eye, but is showing in the two photos I took tonight:

I have some WVA's on watch that have the same sort of second hand, so that's still a possibility. I don't mind it with the second hand missing but I suppose I should try to get it to it's original state.

I just ultrasonic cleaned the bracelet and put it back on. I have thought about a NATO, and I do actually have a brand new sand coloured one that is the correct size, but I think I'd prefer the bracelet. It's exactly the right size for my wrist as it happens, and I like the uniform colour of the whole watch with it on.

Now I just need to decide whether I'm brave enough to try to fit a second hand!😂

I decided to take the plunge and go for fitting a replacement second hand👍.

So I've spent a little while searching for a watch with the same/very similar hand, and came up with this, a WVA-M630:

The hand on this is orange compared to the red of the Overland, but not so much difference that it bothers me.

A quick reminder of how the Overland looked without it's second hand:

And now with the hand successfully swapped into it:

I'm not keeping the WVA, it's going to be sold on. It looks absolutely fine with no second hand:

Cheers👍
