A seconds hand that advances two ticks and then falls back one? Two forward, one back. Two forward, one back. And so on.

Quartz?
Mechanically?

I know the Mondaine Stop2Go is a little quirky, but nothing moves backwards.

Is this possible?

I'm sure it's possible - especially in a quartz world.

Whether there is demand for it is another matter entirely. Out of interest, why would you want something like that?

This thread sucks.
Psshaw! Though I do love that fully 1/263 of your posts here are devoted to this topic

Does the world need jump hours, or minute repeaters, or power reserve indicators, or one-handers? Of course not. But they're novel (or were, anyway) and add a level of interest to an otherwise established, baseline way of telling the time. Would a complication like this really be worse than a regulator, for effsake? I submit to you that it would not.

That's why smart watch is invented. A custom app can do that and much more.

It already exists. Timex designed this movement and put it in all their budget quartz watches. Unfortunately, people are ungrateful and keep complaining about the second hand bouncing instead of appreciating the engineering.

Personally, I would prefer a watch that moves two ticks backwards and one forward. One step forward, two steps back is more consistent with my life. Plus it would also allow me to travel back in time as it will literally run backwards.
