Well Timex can definitely design a watch in my opinion. This is a beautiful skin diver style diver that would have been common in the 70’s. Like others have stated, Timex isn’t know for price = specs . The Aliexpress companies own that domain. Comparing this to a San Martin etc means you missed the point. Timex feels their heritage means something cost wise I assume. I would love to pic one up once the price drops.

I recently bought the 1972 Q Timex reissue so I can't lecture anyone about overspending on a Timex but that does seem a bit pricey for the specifications. Nice looking though...Timex can nail a clean, simple design when they try.

I thought this was crazy sharp as well…until I looked at the specs. Drop the price down $100 and you’ve got a winner, but we know that won’t happen.

That would be you.
I will make a meme for it too or change my sig .. "I violated Rule 2. Deal with it!"

Vaseline sold in Aisle 2 ... 50% off. :p

I like the dial design.

I have a Q Timex quartz and M79 automatic. Both look very nice, but the build quality seriously lags behind their price. The day wheel of the quartz movement was broken out of the box. The bezel action of both watches have lots of movement. The price would be fair given the current specs if the build quality is improved.

Well, it sounds like everyone's in the same place on this one: nice watch, but not at that price! There's such a strong consensus that I'm tempted to send a link to this thread to the Timex marketing department and beg them to see the error of their ways and their clearly nonsensical pricing strategy! :p

In reality, i'm sure they're quite happy with the current price point and more than happy to take the cash off the 95% of customers who couldn't care less about the movement calibre, the measley water resistance or the rattly hollow end links.

And despite all that, i can't stop looking for this watch! The best price i can find it in the UK at the moment is £225 with a new customer discount coupon (that's about $280 USD with the miserable exchange rate of sterling at the moment). I expect you lucky devils in the US can find it cheaper, as there's normally a mark-up here in the UK.

That price is easier to swallow, but i think it would still leave a bitter taste! Think I'm going to have to hang on for a sale.

100M and without a screw down crown is not a diver, it's a diver style watch.
Imagine if watch companies had to print 'diver style' or 'diver flavoured' on the dials of watches with the aesthetics but not the specs of true dive watches!

Just like food manufacturers have to when the product doesn't contain its key ingredient

I'd actually be quite tempted by a watch that proclaimed itself to be 'cheesy diver style' on the dial.

Timex's heritage is attractive, durable watches affordable and available the everyman. This ain't it.

I don't have to imagine. There is an ISO diver certification. I have taken non-iso G-Shocks underwater and they don't flood. As for the post, that's my opinion and I don't expect the industry to do anything about it.

Again.. no where in the Timex marketing materials says it is a Diver. The name is called Waterbury Dive Automatic "
Featuring bold hands, large hour markers, and a 100-meter water resistance rating, the Waterbury Dive
Automatic nods to the purpose-built diver watches of the mid-twentieth century."

you are all being way to WUS again.... their Marketing Dept knows all too well what is doing and guess what? It will sell like pancakes.. because it is a beautiful watch. 98% of the buyers.. are not professional divers and have no clue as what a miyota, seiko or epson movement is. They only care to see what they wear it is in style.

Why is it that when Seiko sells an overprice Seiko 5; or a any of the new divers with a basic 4r36 movement gets appaluded.... same recipe, different brand name.. and IMHO.. Timex does it better than Seiko in regards to Style.

Violated Rule X !!!!

Here's one clear example....
overpriced Quartz... yet it is sold out .. join the lane if you want to get it on the next batch.

And again... Timex does it 100 times better than any G shock ABC watch.

The full retail price on the US Timex website is $299 on the bracelet and $279 on a leather strap. I don’t know if the UK price includes VAT, but US sales taxes are never included in the posted US retail prices (for anything).

I think it’s a lovely looking watch, but I am not in a hurry to buy it. I can wait for the prices to come down. Just between you and me, I actually already own a watch, and so there’s no urgent need for me to buy this specific watch right now.

I'm not wild about Seiko 5 either.

Yes, the UK price will include VAT. I have never realised this wasn't the same for US prices (although it makes perfect sense now i think about the difference in sales taxes you have between states). I don't feel quite as hard done by as i often do when comparing the UK and US prices.
