Speedmaster Pro or Broad Arrow?

Trying to decide between a mid 90s pro and a broad arrow. Same size, similar condition and cost,
biggest difference is the bezel and hands. Which is the better choice?

Sorry the photos are not great, I quickly took them in a shop today. I like the idea of the broad arrow and it is less common, but I did notice the hands sometimes disappear based on the light- the pro is definitely more legible.

Both are classics, both are great, both have legacy, but the Pro is iconic.
I got mine in January after considering a couple of other Speedy models (incl the Broadarrow), and at the time it felt like I was making a safe boring choice. I haven't felt that way at all since I started wearing it.
But ... you can't really go wrong either way.

Whichever one you select I think you will be pleased. The 3594.50 BA is a bit of a chameleon, a tool watch that is a bit dressier than the standard speedy. The broad arrow hands can be a bit harder to read and can obscure the chronograph hands depending on the time of day. Having said that, it is a fun watch to wear and one you'll likely never see on anyone else in the wild. The 3594.50, which has a very dark gray dial, hasn't been made in 17 years. The guy at the Omega Boutique commented that he had never seen one before he saw mine.

I own both watches and FWIW I wear the moonwatch more often, possibly because it is on a brown strap and the BA is on a black strap. I own a lot more brown shoes than black ones so I wear brown watch straps more often.

BTW, there is not a scratch on the hand. The photo below shows the Omega symbol in the crystal being reflected off of the hand.

At the time I brought a 1957 Professional, that here you call Broad Arrow.

And yes it's the same watch with a different tachy scale and hands, it has been my faithful friend from many years.

I will recommend this but only if you can procure it with the original bracelet that unlike the current one tapers to 18mm and it's more comfortable to wear IMO.

Thanks- I agree the broad arrow seems a little more dressy. I would wear either one mainly on the bracelet (a good OEM bracelet is my favorite).

My understanding is the bracelet switched after a year or two in the production and the later broad arrows have the wider bracelet with the twin pushers. I agree the thinner earlier style is better.

No mine was built in 2000, one of the last, and it has the 1499 bracelet:

Even an Original "standard" Speedmaster Professional from the 90s SHOULD have the same the same bracelet...if you see any of them with the current bracelet it has been replaced.

Again the "real" name of the "Broad arrow" is 1957 Professional, they are literally the same watch. While I agree the polished hands are less visible than the white hands of the standard Speedmaster they are still very legible, especially for the time, the seconds' chrono hand as it's narrow might be difficult to read in certain lightning conditions.

I tried a FOIS and CK as well but strangely I found the different case design made them wear "taller" than the pro or broad arrow, even though the heights appear to be the same. Somehow the different lug design creates a different look and feel.

I own the Speedy Trilogy. You'd think my vote would be BA all the way, but:

- the silver (versus white) sub-dial hands flatten the dial and are a lot less legible - lack of contrast; and

- the lyre/twisted (versus straight, tapered) lugs and case size on top of the wide hands makes the watch look bloated - no contrast there either

- the bezel font is blocky

Plus, the t-dial on the 90s Speedy lends it remarkable warmth for a black/white watch - just check that the hands aren't service replacements.

Love BA hands on their own - but as a whole, the 90s Speedy is IMO the better package.

Thanks for the input. I do like the slight darkening on the hour markers from the tritium lume on the pro- I need to ask about the hands, I don't know enough to determine whether they are replacement on my own. From limited research it seems like the hour markers often darken more than the hands, but maybe that just because there are lots of replacement hands.

The hands on the Speedy Pro I posted are the original tritium hands. Its difficult to see in the photo but the tritium is a light eggshell color, slightly lighter than the markers on the dial.

If the hands glow decently they are luminova replacements. The tritium in the original hands will have mostly or (more likely) completely discharged and will no longer glow.
