Vintage Rolex Day-Date -- replace with leather strap?

I have an inherited vintage Rolex Day Date. Approx 25-30 years old. All gold.

The presidential bracelet has no links and to replace as a whole (gold) is very expensive. Any recommendations for putting it on leather strap? I am located in Chicago. What is the best way to go about doing this.

Find a nice leather strap, and enjoy the watch. You can easily replace a strap yourself (only you'll need a spring bar tool for that), or visit any watch store with a large choice of straps, and they'll do that on the spot. Not to mention that you'll be able to check out how the watch looks with a particular strap.

It will look good on a strap.
However, that watch seems to look really good with the bracelet, which many gold watch/gold bracelet combos just can't seem to pull off without getting all gaudy. And if the previous owner was particularly close to you then wearing it with a bracelet may remind you more of him. While they aren't cheap you should be able to find some used extra links for that watch easily and the good thing is that it is just shifting money around - you can always sell them for what you have in them (or for more!!!).

Perhaps you could go with an aftermarket president style bracelet? I own a Bulova Super Seville which is a clone of the day/date and its on an aftermarket presidential bracelet as the original Bulova was long gone. Here's a pix

Rolex can wear leather, but not sure you can buy a strap and buckle from them directly:

As an aside, my stepfather has an early 80s President and the bracelet was shot to hell. Rolex will not fix it; only offer to replace the gold bracelet for $10k. So he had it fixed by a goldsmith. Now, if it goes in for service at Rolex, they will go apoplectic and send the Swiss Guard to thrash him smartly. When I inherit it, I plan on having a nice croc strap made.
