ETA 2824-2 Rotor noise. Is this normal?

So I just got my Steinhart OVM 2.0. Very happy with it. But when I shake it and keep it next to my ear, I can hear it rotate and then fall back like tick, tick tick. Also when I shake it front and back, not sideways, it sound like the rotor blade might be a tad lose or flimsy? Don't know for sure. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Here is a video. The box it came in did have some dents, so maybe it got hit hard.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

There is a little bit of play, even in a new rotor bearing. I took this video before and after replacing a worn rotor bearing in an ETA 2824-2 to show what the difference in play is:

You can see that even the new bearing allows the rotor to flop around just a bit.

Now yours obviously isn't worn if it's a new watch, and you are shaking the watch rather hard in the video from what I can see. If you shake it hard enough or bang it against something, the rotor can deflect (it is a heavy weight out on the perimeter of a thin plate) and cause the weight to catch bridges. Not sure if that is the tick I'm hearing or not. If you hold the watch in your hand say with your thumb on the crystal, then look straight on at the dial, holding the watch dial perpendicular to the ground. Then GENTLY shake it so the dial is moving directly away from you and then back towards you, do you hear the rotor hitting anything? If not, then I think you are fine, but if you do hear distinct ticking noises, the screw that holds the rotor to the movement may be loose.

Cheers, Al

Thanks for you response Al. I do hear it rotating softly then, so that seems normal. The ticking like you described and as you can still hear in the beginning of the video is there when I don't move it front and back perfectly, so I assume that's play in the rotor, like you showed in your video. If I bring it up next to my ear though, and shake softly, i can hear it ticking. (tick tick tick, like falling back in to place) So yea not sure, should be fine. Keeps time well also. Say the screw is loose, ill really notice something at some point right? Can always send it back then. What you think?

Edit: Just did the same with my Seiko SARB033, and it sounds different, but the same actually. So probably all good, just a different movement and material.

My Junghans Max Bill is pretty loud with that movement, especially with the small case and acrylic crystal. My Longines with the 2824 was a bit noisy as well. But they both had excellent accuracy and since that is what the watch is supposed to do (keep accurate time), then it was nothing to worry about.
